fellowship

The People’s Studio Practicum offers 3-12 month fellowship opportunities. In-person or remotely, fellows engage in various local projects and initiatives. Each project or initiative offers fellows the opportunity to develop critical thinking skills and systems change applications to the specific structural conditions being investigated while cultivating opportunities that advance a true practice of democratic principles and values, like equity and justice, in place.

The fellowship commences with the 12-course curriculum, which prepares fellows to ensure proper contextualization of past to present policies, practices, and investments shaping neighborhood conditions. This coursework is critical for fellows to integrate into neighborhood projects and activities authentically.

Upon successful completion, the fellows assist in researching and designing local projects and initiatives. Under the guidance and support of diverse facilitators, fellows engage in participatory action research methodologies, oral history archiving, artifact collection, local project conceptualization, and other studio components.

Fellowship teams are also liaisons between The People’s Studio Practicum experience and the community. Fellows assist in organizing and programming events with partners and community collaborators. Fellows benefit by connecting to existing deeply embedded community work, making their presence and contributions part of a longer-term process that continues beyond the fellowship.
